Discovering Tribeca's Hidden Gem: Rembaum-Hanau's Curated Design Oasis

Nestled within the ever-evolving Tribeca Design District, a new design studio and collection has emerged, captivating the attention of design enthusiasts and casual browsers alike. Rembaum-Hanau, a collaborative venture between designers Sharon Rembaum and Cécile Hanau, has established a unique space that seamlessly blends their shared passion for vintage furniture, art, and objects sourced from around the world.

Elevating the Everyday with Impulsive Allure

A Fusion of Diverse Design Perspectives

Rembaum-Hanau's story is one of serendipitous collaboration, as Sharon Rembaum and Cécile Hanau discovered a shared design philosophy while studying under the tutelage of renowned design historian Daniella Ohad. Sharon, a former BBC broadcast journalist, found her true calling in interior design, completing the UCLA Interior Architecture and Design program to pursue her lifelong passion. Cécile, a French native, brings a wealth of expertise in textiles, having honed her skills at the École Camondo in Paris and Parsons, and through her extensive experience in the industry, including roles at the House of Scalamandré and as a design consultant in the hospitality sector and for private clients. The duo's complementary backgrounds and shared vision have culminated in the creation of Rembaum-Hanau, a hybrid studio that seamlessly blends their design prowess with a carefully curated retail component. Their frequent travels to Europe – France, Italy, the UK, and even Scandinavia – allow them to source one-of-a-kind treasures, both through their own explorations and by collaborating with brokers on the other side of the Atlantic.

Eclectic Elegance: A Tribeca Design Destination

Rembaum-Hanau's approach to their collection is refreshingly eclectic, defying the constraints of any particular era or genre. "We are like the French flea market of Tribeca," Sharon Rembaum proudly declares, "We don't want to pigeonhole ourselves. We are very eclectic, and carry everything from the late 19th Century to the 1970s."This diverse and captivating array of furniture, art, and objects has found a perfect home in the former Antiqueria Tribeca space on Duane Street, a location that Cécile Hanau had long envisioned for her studio, having lived in the neighborhood during the 1990s. The space itself is a testament to Rembaum-Hanau's design sensibilities, exuding a charming and beautiful ambiance that invites visitors to explore and discover.

Curating Connections: Retail and Design Synergy

The Rembaum-Hanau experience extends beyond the retail space, as the duo also applies their design expertise to projects for clients, ranging from West Coast beach houses to country estates in Westchester. This seamless integration of the retail and design components allows them to create a cohesive aesthetic that resonates with their customers, many of whom are bi-coastal in their own right."What we like is the mix, that's the fun of it for us," Cécile Hanau explains. "That's what people hire us for, the layering, to create that story." This layered approach to design is evident in the Rembaum-Hanau space, where visitors can wander and browse, engaging in conversations with the designers and discovering unique pieces that capture their imagination. The opening of Rembaum-Hanau on November 30th has been met with a flurry of activity, as the studio's carefully curated collection continues to captivate and delight the design-savvy community of Tribeca and beyond. With a steady stream of new arrivals and a commitment to sourcing the most intriguing and significant pieces, Rembaum-Hanau has quickly established itself as a must-visit destination for those seeking to elevate their living spaces with a touch of impulsive allure.
