Expanding Horizons: Jamieson Community Center's Relocation Empowers Local Families

Jamieson Community Center, a pillar of the Monmouth community, is embarking on an exciting new chapter as it expands its operations to a larger space on Main Street. This strategic move will enable the organization to enhance its vital services and better serve the diverse needs of the region's residents.

Empowering the Community, One Family at a Time

Consolidating Essential Services Under One Roof

The Jamieson Community Center has acquired the former Tom and Linda's grocery store, located at 1120 S. Main St., with the intention of relocating its Community Marketplace to this new, more spacious facility. This relocation will allow the organization to centralize its key offerings, including the thrift store and food pantry, under one roof. Additionally, the new space will house a dedicated resource person who will assist local families in connecting with the appropriate community resources, ensuring that their needs are met effectively. The expanded facility will provide ample room for the food pantry and thrift store, allowing the Jamieson Community Center to better accommodate the growing demand for these essential services. "We want to make sure that literally any person can walk in the door and get the things that they need," said Executive Director Nancy Mowen, underscoring the organization's commitment to accessibility and inclusivity.

Strengthening Collaborative Efforts

The Jamieson Community Center's expansion is a testament to the power of community collaboration. The organization has worked closely with various philanthropic and community-based organizations to secure the necessary funding and support for this project. The Pattee Foundation, in particular, played a crucial role in helping the Jamieson Community Center acquire the new building, ensuring that the organization can continue to address the pressing issues of food security, basic needs, and academic and learning goals within the region."Everything that we do, every single thing that we do in this community is because we have so many philanthropic people, so many caring people, and we work very closely with many other organizations," said Mowen, emphasizing the collaborative nature of the Jamieson Community Center's work. This collaborative approach has been instrumental in the organization's ability to serve the diverse needs of the community.

Enhancing Resource Accessibility

The new Main Street location will not only provide more physical space for the Jamieson Community Center's operations but will also create a dedicated position for a resource person. This individual, with a background in social work, will be responsible for assisting local families in navigating the available community resources and connecting them with the support they need to thrive."What I'm envisioning is someone with a social work background, so they understand how people can advance, like what resources can help them move forward," explained Mowen, highlighting the organization's commitment to empowering individuals and families to achieve their goals. This new resource person will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between the community's needs and the available support services, ensuring that no one falls through the cracks. By providing personalized guidance and connecting families with the right resources, the Jamieson Community Center aims to foster long-term, sustainable change within the community.

Expanding Reach and Impact

The Jamieson Community Center's expansion to the Main Street location is a strategic move that will enable the organization to reach a wider audience and deepen its impact within the region. With the increased space and enhanced service offerings, the Jamieson Community Center is poised to serve even more individuals and families in need.Last year, the organization reported serving more than 5,000 people through its various programs, a testament to the growing demand for its services. The new Main Street location will allow the Jamieson Community Center to accommodate this increasing need and continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those it serves. As the Jamieson Community Center embarks on this exciting new chapter, the organization remains committed to its core mission of supporting the community and empowering individuals and families to thrive. With the dedication of its staff, the support of its partners, and the unwavering commitment of the community, the Jamieson Community Center is poised to expand its reach and deepen its impact, ensuring that no one is left behind.
