Justin Shellhammer's story is one of selfless service and unwavering dedication to his country. In 2005, while serving in the Army, his life changed forever when he stepped on a landmine, resulting in the loss of his leg. Despite the devastating injury, Shellhammer's commitment to his country never wavered. "I'd do it all over again," he said. "We need people to stand up for our country and we need people to join the military and to be able to sign their ultimate line and be able to give their lives to our country if need be." Shellhammer's willingness to sacrifice for the greater good is a testament to the bravery and patriotism that define the American spirit.

After the life-altering incident, Shellhammer spent months in military hospitals, determined to recover and reclaim his independence. His unwavering determination and resilience paid off, as he went on to become a law enforcement officer before eventually retiring. However, Shellhammer's greatest challenge was yet to come – becoming a stay-at-home dad. Without the right set of wheels, Shellhammer struggled to keep up with his young children, a task he was determined to master.

Community Support and Empowerment

Recognizing Shellhammer's need, the employees of Preble County's Bullen Ultrasonics stepped up to the plate. Many of them had served in the military themselves and understood the challenges faced by veterans. They donated ,000 towards the purchase of an all-terrain "Zoom Chair" for Shellhammer, a specialized mobility device that would allow him to keep up with his children. "Our core values are excellence, humility, integrity, and teamwork," said Bullen President Tim Beatty. "And this group of veterans have displayed every single one of those core values by helping out somebody like Justin."

With his new set of wheels, Shellhammer is thrilled to be able to fully participate in his children's lives. "I can pass them now, and say let's have a race," he said. "And now I can smoke them. And yeah, Dad's got his own Power Wheels now." The joy and pride in his voice are palpable, as he embraces the simple pleasures of being an active, engaged parent. Shellhammer's story serves as a powerful reminder that true heroism can be found in the everyday moments, where individuals overcome challenges and embrace the fullness of life.
