"Being a part of this movement is important to me because it means my kids get to grow up with this kind of representation as the norm. We are laying the groundwork for generations to come."This sentiment is echoed by former Osteria Mozza chef Jimmy Reyes, who has opened his own restaurant, Leña, in Boyle Heights. Reyes is taking a fiery approach to Salvadoran cuisine, drawing inspiration from his childhood memories of enjoying cookouts with his family in El Salvador."Cooking over wood-fire is something that takes me back to those cherished moments," Reyes said. "Owning a restaurant has always been my lifelong dream, but I credit my aunt, Candida De La Luz, as one of my biggest motivations. She's been by my side, watching me achieve her own long-held ambition."
