Uniting for a Cure: The Inspiring Story of "Score for a Cure"

In the heart of Springfield, Missouri, a community has come together to fight a devastating disease that has touched the lives of many. "Score for a Cure," a heartfelt fundraiser, is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for Alzheimer's research, driven by personal stories and a shared determination to find a cure.

Empowering the Fight Against Alzheimer's

Honoring Cherished Memories

Nearly two decades ago, Hannah Webster's world was shattered when her mother succumbed to the ravages of Alzheimer's disease. At just 21 years old, she witnessed the gradual erosion of her mother's identity, a heartbreaking experience that has fueled her passion to ensure others don't suffer the same fate. "Everything that she fought so hard to be, slowly being taken away from her, and the future that we could have had with her, you know, I've just always felt robbed," Webster recounts, her voice tinged with the weight of her loss.

A Shared Burden, a Collective Resolve

Kelley Filbeck's story echoes the pain of watching a loved one battle Alzheimer's. "It's heartbreaking. I mean, think about it if you look into a loved one's eyes, and they don't know who you are," she says, her words resonating with the countless families who have faced this devastating reality. Filbeck's father, a devoted football fan, inspired the creation of "Score for a Cure," a testament to the power of personal experiences to drive meaningful change.

A Glimmer of Hope

Amidst the heartache, there is a glimmer of hope. Hannah Webster's husband, Nate, shares the story of his father-in-law, who is currently living with early-onset Alzheimer's. Thanks to the most recent drug study, Nate's father-in-law has shown no signs of the disease's progression, a testament to the transformative power of research. "Because of that study, because of all of the research that has gone into it, he currently has no amyloid markers on his brain showing that Alzheimer's is present. So, this is one of those cures that we're working towards," Nate explains, his words igniting a spark of optimism.

Fueling the Pursuit of a Cure

The funds raised through "Score for a Cure" flow directly to the Alzheimer's Association, empowering vital research to find a cure for this devastating disease. Betsy Walker, the organizer and owner of Where House Bar, emphasizes the importance of continued investment in research. "There's hope, and we need to continue to fund research so that we can find the cure," she says, her determination echoing the collective resolve of the community.

A Community United in Purpose

The "Score for a Cure" event has become a rallying cry for the Springfield community, drawing together individuals from all walks of life who share a common goal: to eradicate Alzheimer's and provide hope for those affected by it. From the personal stories that inspire the event to the collective efforts that fuel its success, this fundraiser stands as a testament to the power of community, compassion, and the unwavering pursuit of a cure.
