Campaign to Raise 1 Million Meals for New Mexico Families
The Storehouse New Mexico is on a remarkable journey to raise sufficient funds for an astounding 1 million meals. This endeavor comes at a time when they are witnessing an unprecedented surge in demand. In Albuquerque, N.M., the need for hot holiday meals is more critical than ever. As Kevin Cochran, the program manager at The Storehouse, aptly puts it, "The Storehouse is busier than we’ve ever been. We are setting records for how many families that we’re serving." This increased demand is not a temporary blip but a persistent reality that will likely continue through the late winter and early spring. Cochran further emphasizes the importance of restocking the shelves to meet this ongoing need.

Record-Breaking November: Serving 1,100 Families

In November alone, The Storehouse served an astonishing 1,100 families, a record that showcases the extent of the hardship faced by local communities. As prices and other expenses have soared, more and more families are turning to The Storehouse for assistance. Rachael Garcia, the senior vice president of marketing at Sandia Area Federal Credit Union, highlights the significance of addressing this need at the dinner table. "We truly believe, to strengthen our families and to strengthen our community, it truly starts right there at the dinner table."

How the "FACE the Hunger" Campaign Helps

Sandia Area Federal Credit Union initiated the "FACE the Hunger" campaign in 2020, matching financial donations for The Storehouse. This initiative has been a game-changer. Last year, they raised enough funds to provide 820,000 meals, bringing them tantalizingly close to their goal for this year. A mere donation can provide 25 meals for New Mexico families, and the credit union is also matching donations up to ,000. Cochran emphasizes the importance of community support in meeting this record demand. "We can’t meet record demand without the community’s support. The holidays are always our busiest time of year, but in the last few years, the whole next year is even busier than the holidays of the previous year."

The Campaign Timeline and Donation Options

The "FACE the Hunger" campaign runs through Jan. 6, giving the community ample time to contribute. Donations can be made at one of the credit union branches or online, making it convenient for everyone to participate. By coming together, we can make a significant impact and help The Storehouse New Mexico achieve its goal of providing 1 million meals. This is not just a one-time effort but a continuous commitment to supporting those in need and strengthening our community.
