Lake Forest College transforms into a vibrant hub of musical talent as it hosts a diverse group of young musicians, aged 11 to 17, from around the world. This summer program, part of Ravinia's Seminario, culminates in a captivating concert that showcases the students' exceptional skills and the power of music to transcend borders.

Ravinia's Seminario program has welcomed approximately 135 students from five countries: Sweden, Greece, Mexico, Canada, and the United States. These young musicians have come together, each bringing their unique cultural perspectives and musical traditions, to create a harmonious symphony that defies geographical boundaries. Guadalupe Ramirez, a student from Waukegan, Illinois, expressed her excitement at the opportunity to meet and collaborate with peers from diverse backgrounds, stating, "I met some girls from Mexico, like a Mexican program—some people from Sweden. Obviously, a lot of students from the United States."

Orchestral Mastery in the Making

The Seminario program is designed to push the musical abilities of these talented students to new heights. Christine Taylor Conda, the Director of Ravinia's Reach Teach Play Education Programs, emphasizes the intensity of the experience, noting, "This is not easy music. This is real orchestral music." The students have undergone rigorous rehearsals and extensive preparation to ensure they are ready to take the stage at Ravinia's main venue. Aurian Schäring, a student from Sweden, shared his enthusiasm, saying, "I was like, I have never been to Chicago. And I love playing music. So it's like a win-win situation."

The buildings, I would say. It's not similar to Sweden at all."
