Faces in the Crowd: Our favorite outfits at 80/35 Music Festival

Fashionable Flair at the 80/35 Music Festival

The 80/35 Music Festival in Des Moines, Iowa, is not just about the music – it's also a showcase of the attendees' unique and stylish fashion choices. From vibrant tie-dye to breezy summer attire, the festival-goers at this year's event showcased their personal style and embraced the spirit of the occasion.

Embracing the Festival Vibe with Flair

Keeping Cool and Comfortable

Steph Rankin, a festival-goer, prioritized comfort and practicality in her outfit choice. "The inspiration is to keep as cool as absolutely possible," she said. "These pants are like tissue thin and so I can feel the breeze through them." Rankin's lightweight and breathable ensemble allowed her to enjoy the festival without being weighed down by heavy or restrictive clothing.

Representing the Music Festival

Adam Arndt, another attendee, opted to wear a t-shirt from the previous weekend's Saturday in the Park festival in Sioux City. "I wanted to wear the t-shirt of the music festival I was going to," he explained, showcasing his dedication to the festival scene. Riley Childs, Arndt's companion, also embraced the festival spirit with her stylish ensemble.

Channeling Personal Style

Bri Leonard's unique "jat" (jean hat) was a standout accessory, adding a touch of personal flair to her festival look. The hat, purchased from a Florida mall in 2018 when Leonard worked at Disney World, reflected her eclectic sense of style and her connection to the theme park experience.

Expressing Individuality

Emmaline Scott's outfit, featuring a top from Revival in Iowa City and a skirt from Brandy Melville, embodied her desire to create a "festival outfit" that captured her personal style. "I really wanted like a festival outfit," she said, highlighting the importance of self-expression through fashion at these events.

Beating the Heat in Style

Jenna Roberts prioritized comfort and practicality in her festival attire, choosing an ensemble that would keep her cool in the hot weather. "I just wanted something that would be good in the really hot weather because I knew how hot it was going to be today," she explained, demonstrating the need to balance style and functionality at outdoor music festivals.

Embracing Local Brands

Eric and Tabitha Williams showcased their support for a locally owned brand, Tri-Dye, by wearing the brand's vibrant tie-dye pieces. The couple's fashion choices not only reflected their personal style but also their commitment to supporting the local community and its creative talents.

Paying Homage to Favorite Styles

Josh McCoy's perennial 80/35 shirt, which he described as a "toucan collared shirt," has become a festival staple for him. "I have several of them, but this is one that comes out virtually every year," he said, highlighting the sentimental value and personal connection he has with his festival attire.

Blending Inspiration and Practicality

Lily Bassett's festival outfit was inspired by what her younger self would have wanted to wear, while Bridget Brombach found her shorts on clearance at Anthropologie, demonstrating the balance between personal expression and budget-conscious shopping.
